Peloton Kettlebell Workout Guide: How to Use Them

This Peloton Kettlebell Workout Guide is NOT sponsored and was written based on my honest experience as a busy mom working on her fitness!

I absolutely love doing kettlebell workouts and couldn’t wait to use them in my Peloton strength classes.

That said, Peloton does not offer any exclusive kettlebell workouts through their Digital App, Introductory Guide-Only, or All-Access memberships at this time.

BUT there are a ton of different videos and instructors who use traditional kettlebell exercises in their classes!

Peloton Kettlebell Workout Guide: How to Use Them

Kettlebell exercises have the potential to provide an amazing full-body workout and can easily be used with Peloton lifting classes.

You can do Peloton’s Strength Training classes with any of their fitness machines and technology including:

  • Bike or Bike+
  • Tread
  • Guide
  • Digital App

Personally, the Digital App is my pick for doing Peloton classes with kettlebells!

It’s the most convenient and cost-efficient choice.

We have a set of Onnit Primal kettlebells – each kettlebell looks like a different primate.

We’ve had these for years but I just started using them more regularly now and am loving them.

I’ll do a short little review at the end of this post.

What is Peloton Guide?

If you have any experience with video games, it’ll remind you a bit of Xbox Kinect!

But the Peloton Guide has a much steeper starting price point of $395.00.

There are also two upgraded packages available:

  • Guide Strength Starter (workout mat and 3 sets of Peloton dumbbells)
  • Guide Power (workout mat, heart rate monitor, and 6 set of ROGUE dumbbells that weigh 5 to 50 pounds)

Personally, I think it’s overpriced for what it is and recommend buying a floor length mirror to use with the Peloton Digital App instead.

It costs less than half the price for the ability to make sure you’re using the correct form and you won’t have to worry about technical issues EVER.

The Guide-only All Access Membership costs $24 USD ($30 Canadian) while the app costs $12.99 USD ($16.99 Canadian) a month.

Does Peloton have dumbbell workouts?

Yes, many of Peloton’s Strength Training classes use dumbbells.

This includes the following focused class types:

  • Upper Body (Arms & Shoulders and Chest & Back)
  • Lower Body (Glutes & Legs)
  • Core

Peloton also offers Bodyweight classes that don’t use any equipment besides a workout mat!

Best Mat for Peloton Strength Classes

I really like Gaiam yoga products and this mat is a great choice for both weight lifting and stretching.

It’s affordable and super high quality for the price point!

Does Peloton have kettlebell workouts?

While Peloton does not offer exclusive kettlebell workouts, their strength training classes incorporate a lot of traditional kettlebell exercises.

I found that classes focused on lower body and core work did this the most.

Some common exercises that you can replace dumbbells with kettlebells include:

  • Swings
  • Goblet squats
  • Sumo squats
  • Sit-up to presses
  • Overhead triceps extensions
  • Curtsy lunges
  • Reverses lunges
  • Walking lunges

Swings are DEFINITELY better with a kettlebell than they are with a regular dumbbell!

You can get a much better grip on the weight and won’t have to worry about launching it through your wall or the TV.

I have a feeling that part of Peloton’s own brand of dumbbells incorporated the flat design on their ends for the reason of using them in these traditional kettlebell exercises.

And while they do work, kettlebells will always be better!

Here’s a comparison of one of my 20-pound Peloton brand weights versus our 18-pound kettlebell.

Best Peloton Strength Instructors for Kettlebell Exercises

My top two favorite instructors for Peloton strength classes are:

  • Ben Alldis
  • Callie Gullickson

While Ben’s classes tend to be between 15 to 30 minutes long, Callie has a few that are up to 45 minutes.

Both instructors do a ton of traditional kettlebell exercises in their sessions.

I also like that they keep the conversation light and focused on fitness!

Working out with Ben is like working with a top-notch professional trainer while exercising with Callie feels like you’re working out with your quirky fun best friend.

Here’s how my 36-pound kettlebell compares to two of my 20-pound Peloton dumbbells.

So, when you’re doing curtsy lunges, for instance, you’ll hold the kettlebell with two hands in the center of your body instead of holding two dumbbells at your sides!

At the end of the day, you’re still focusing on the same muscle group while you’re exercising that part of your body.

The only thing that’s changing is your grip on the weight and where you’re holding it!

What kettlebells and dumbbells to buy

I’d recommend getting at least two different kettlebells.

If you’re a moderately strong woman, 15 pounds and 25 pounds would be a good place to start.

With Peloton strength classes, you’ll also need at least one set of regular dumbbells too.

I’d recommend starting with 10 pound dumbbells – these basic ones from Amazon are a good choice.

This is my setup for Peloton strength training classes: 18-pound and 36-pound kettlebells plus two 10-pound dumbbells.

Onnit Kettlebell Review

We love our Primal Kettlebells from Onnit!

They’re high quality, made with chip-resistant iron, and feature enlarged handles for a better grip.

I absolutely love these for swings and lower bodywork!

We have three sizes:

  • 18 pound (0.5 pood) Howler Primal Bell
  • 36 pound (1 pood) Chimp Primal Bell
  • 72 pound (2 pood) Gorilla Primal Bell

When I get a bit stronger, I might consider adding the 54-pound (1.5 pood) Orangutan Primal Bell to our collection.

The 18-pound and 36-pound weights are fantastic for me right now but the 72-pound Gorilla is a bit too heavy – that’s my husband’s designated kettlebell, haha.

Online Kettlebell Classes

Onnit offers a full-body, 6-week transformation workout on their website!

I’m going to start it this weekend and can’t wait to share my results with you guys.

If you want to try it with me, you can get it here.

The cost is $49.95 for this digital program.

Free Kettlebell Workouts for Women

I turned this class that I found on Rumble into a full-body kettlebell workout by just holding a weight throughout!

Her production value might not be as high as Peloton (or Onnit) but these days, I like to support small creators and businesses any chance I can.

Final Thoughts: Peloton Kettle Workout Guide

Using kettlebells for your Peloton strength classes is totally doable!

But you’ll need to have at least one set of regular dumbbells to do all of the exercises that the instructors incorporate into their classes.

If I had to choose just one weight set, I’d go with 10 pounds for my regular dumbbells and continue using my 18 and 36-pound kettlebells the rest of the time.
