Honest Noom Review: I Lost 45 Pounds in 5 Months

This Honest Noom Review is NOT sponsored and was written based on my honest experience as a busy mom working on her fitness!

I’m going to be completely real with you – I don’t think I would have lost 45 pounds without Noom!

noom review

We purchased our Peloton WAY back in 2019 and although I loved the bike from the day we brought it home, I was just never motivated enough by it alone to completely change my lifestyle.

Noom made me see things much differently and for the first 3 months, I absolutley LOVED the daily lessons.

But athough they did start to lose their appeal after a while, logging onto the app daily check kept me going for another 2 months for 45 pounds of weight loss.

I can’t wait to share what I loved about Noom with you as well as where I think they missed the mark!

Noom Review: I Lost 45 Pounds in 5 Months

Noom starts with an incredibly thorough survey to build your profile.

You’ll answer about a dozen questions before they ask for your email in order to “See [Your] Result”.

This includes things like:

  • starting weight
  • goal weight
  • fitness level
  • gender
  • whether you’re pregnant
  • health issues
  • family history

After entering your email, you’ll be shown a graph with a date estimate for your weight goal!

And once you hit continue, you’ll get to answer some more questions like:

  • eating goals
  • personal goals
  • recent life events
  • last time you were at your ideal weight
  • previous weight loss programs you’ve tried
  • things you’ve tried in the past to lose weight

And after you’ve answered these questions, voila – an even sooner date estimate that Noom estimates you’ll reach your weight loss goal by!

This was honestly the part that sold me.

Because hey, I said I was willing to do what it takes to get into the best shape of my life!

And if there’s a program out there that says I can do so by a particular date, it’s is absolutely worth a shot.

Worst case scenario? I tried my best and made a small difference!

My results were incredible though.

I went all in on fitness and nutrition to make it happen.

You can use this code to get a free 14-day trial now and then 20% off later on if you decide Noom’s working for you!

Can you cancel Noom after free trial?

Yes, you can cancel your Noom trial before the 14-day trial period before has ended.

You can also update your Subscription settings within the app.

Is Noom worth paying for?

In my opinion, absolutely!

I lost 9 pounds in my first two weeks and was super happy about it.

Before Noom, I was struggling with my nutrition and fitness.

This program gave me the motivation I needed to change my life for good.

Noom cost for the 2 month program

When I signed up for Noom, it cost $119.00 for 2 months or $13.66 a week.

This is an absolute steal in my opinion.

When I started the program in September 2021, there was only a 6-month option available.

Now it’s a 4-month plan and an even better price.

This code brings it down to $127.20 or $31.80 a month!

How long does Noom take to see results?

It depends on you and your lifestyle.

I fully committed to changing my lifestyle with daily fitness and nutrition goals and saw a change in just the first two weeks!

How much weight can you lose on Noom in a month?

Once again, this depends on you and your lifestyle.

Someone who works out for an hour a day and focuses on their nutrition intake will see results much faster than an individual who focuses only on counting calories!

I lost 17 pounds in one month.

What is the success rate of Noom?

A 2016 study of 36,000 Noom users found that 78% or participants experienced weight loss after using the app for an average of 9 months.

8,300 users (22.7%) lost more than 10% of their body weight.

Noom works!

My Noom Before and After Transformation

I started Noom at 195 pounds on September 12th, 2021 and finished at 149 pounds on February 20th, 2022 – I was 9 months postpartum with my second baby.

Despite being a new busy mom of two (with a baby that started walking shortly after), the Noom app was easy enough for me to log onto any time of day.

Here’s a comparison of Day 1 versus 3 months in.

noom before after

I lost 32 pounds in 3 months by working out 5 days a week and focusing on my diet.

The cool thing is that the Noom app lets you sync your fitness tracker (like an Apple Watch) to it and will auto-upload your workouts whenever you refresh the app.

I worked out for about an hour on my fitness days and burned between 500 to 600 calories between spin sessions and weight lifting.

That means Noom auto-adjusted my calorie allowance to add 500 to 600 more calories a day!

I love food and I enjoy working out, so it was a wonderful combination, haha!

Here’s a photo after my 45-pound weight loss.

noom worth it

I was wearing size 10 (large) pants and tops when I started but wear a size 6 (small) now.

I don’t say this to brag but rather to give you an idea of what 45-pounds of weight loss translates to in clothing.

Because believe me – you will HAVE to buy a new wardrobe if you lose this much weight!

It’s actually kind of bittersweet when you have certain pieces of clothing you love that no longer fit you.

But the opportunity to create a new wardrobe feels like a fresh start.

I sell most of my clothing on Poshmark and am always searching for new pieces to add to my wardrobe on here too.

It’s way less expensive than buying clothing at retail cost and you’re supporting other REAL people rather than mega-corporations this way (although Poshmark does take a cut).

You can use my code NSLIVARICH to save $15 off your first order.

Things I liked about Noom

Here are my top favorite things about using the Noom app:

  • color coordinated calorie density food system – green, yellow, and red
  • promotes behavioural changes with daily lessons
  • promotes other healthy habits like exercise and water consumption
  • group chat is a great place to get inspired and stay motivated
  • easily adjust your goals in the Settings menu after you’ve reached another one
  • doesn’t make you feel bad for eating red foods or going over your calorie limit

Noom negative reviews

There are a few things I didn’t like about the app and the reason I won’t be paying for it again.

The biggest negative was that when I did the program (it might be different now), you were able to LISTEN to the daily lessons!

They were all available as audio files but right after the 14-day trial ended, everything was text based.

I found this really disappointing and honestly, a little deceiving since the trial is supposed to show you what the paid version is all about.

Don’t get me wrong – I LOVE reading!

Heck, we don’t have cable.

But the option to LISTEN to audio files while doing something as mundane as loading the dishwasher was VERY appealing.

Next, the lessons became really dull at around the 3 month mark.

They were interesting and exciting at the beginning but started to lose their spark around 3 months in.

There was also a lot of repetition in the question and answer activities like this one.

noom negative reviews

It just started to feel like recycled material!

I’d spend the time logging my exercise and meals but stopped bothering with the daily readings at this point.

Those daily readings also included a politically charged topic in them around month 3 – I hate getting into politics as it is and do NOT appreciate brands that push them.

This was actually part of the reason I sold my Peloton!

And lastly, sometimes logging food can be a pain.

Since users can manually upload foods, this creates a HUGE database that should make logging meals really easy!

And sometimes it is.

BUT sometimes users enter the nutrition facts wrong (or they’ve changed slightly according to the manufacturer’s update) and if you’re not careful, it’ll mess up your food logging.

That said, if you eat predominantly REAL whole foods rather than packaged ones, it’ll keep calculations more simple.

Although you’ll find yourself manually entering in values for low calorie things like seasonings and spices at the beginning, haha.

I know I did!

My Noom Diet Plan

Noom ranks food according to a three color system:

  • green (low in calories)
  • yellow (moderately calorie dense)
  • red (most calorie dense)

When I started Noom, I began my day with an organic banana and an Americano.

Once my baby went to bed, I’d go workout for an hour and come back upstairs to make a fruit salad with another cup of coffee!

noom meal plan

My favorite salad combination is:

  • half an avocado
  • half a mango
  • half a cup of blueberries
  • half a cup of raspberries
  • half a cup of strawberries

I’ve also combination my avocado mango base with:

  • watermelon
  • cantalope
  • honeydew
  • grapes
  • oranges
  • apples

Head to the grocery store and see what organic fruits are on sale and make a salad from there!

I didn’t beat myself up about it!

I just tried to do better the next day.

For lunch and dinner, I like a protein with some veggies.

This was a low calorie “sushi hack” I came up with.

noom meal ideas

I wrapped a piece of avocado and a piece of pollock in smoked salmon to mimic something along the lines of traditional rolls and nigiri!

Grilled protein on salads were another favorite.

noom good way to lose weight

This is some grilled chicken on a bed of lettuce with mini cucumbers and grape tomatoes.

I usually don’t put dressing on my salads but cucumber salad is a MAJOR favorite!

Substituting Greek yogurt for sour cream adds major protein to it (I think the one I was using had something like 17g of protein per serving – wild).

Healthy Recipe Ideas:

Is Noom worth it?

I used Noom to lose weight from September 2021 to around February 2022.

And honestly, it opened the floodgates for me to make changes throughout my life.

I’m not the same person I was last September.

I went through a major awakening half way through Noom – not related but I think being on the right track physically and mentally helped me accept it.

My priorities and mindset changed dramatically for the better.

And now, nourishing my body and mind with exercise, food, and prayer is what sustains me.

noom real reviews

Heck, I hardly ever posted selfies before Noom and now I spend half of my time writing about athleisure wear!

Life is short.

Take care of yourself.

Do what makes you happy.

Be grateful every day and start acting like the person you want to be by making a change today!

Honest Noom Review: Final Thoughts

Although I’m unsure if I would pay for it again, Noom really did kickstart my fitness adventure!

And 9 months later, I’m still down 40 pounds since when I started.

I’m starting the Onnit 6 Kettlebell program soon and will be combining it with a cleaner diet to get back on track.

I was down 45 pounds before I stopped working out and focusing on healthy eating.

I may use the free version of Noom to log my meals and keep track of what I’m eating throughout the day though.

I’m not the type of person who hates counting calories and gaining awareness of my “fog eating” habit helped me to break it the first time around!

But for someone who’s never tried Noom before, I think this app is 100% worth a shot.

It really did change my life and I’m happy I went for it.

So, will you try Noom? What are your fitness and nutrition goals?

I’d love to hear from you in the comments below!

Happy Nooming, friend 🙂

  1. Just stumbled by your post after looking for reviews on Costco cheesecake! Lol

…but maybe the universe put me here for a reason. More than cheesecake, I need to participate in life again. And I’m having a hard time figuring out how to do that.

Maybe an app like noom will give me a reason to want to do anything…

Lots to unpack. Thanks for the info. Great post!

  3. This is exactly what I needed to find tonight! I’m going to sign up in just a few minutes. I’m just fed up. I’m only 5’0 so the extra weight is really starting to show. I need to lose 30 lbs. None of my clothes are fitting, I’m in my mid 40s, had a hysterectomy…I’m just so tired of not being happy in my own body anymore. It’s like nothing I try is helping, and if I do somewhat descent on food on a day, I wind up starving by bedtime. I need help with food because I get overwhelmed. I need the psychological aspect that NOOM is offering as well. I need the daily check ins because I feel so alone in trying to find what’s really going to work for me and help me love myself again. I just need help all the way around. Thank you for your review! I will comment back in a few months and let you know how it’s going.
