This clean your home fast guide is NOT sponsored and was written based on my honest experience as a busy mom who’s often racing against the clock to get it all done.
If you’ve ever looked around your home – maybe right before a friend or your mother-in-law stops by, or at the moment yours kids decide to bring every toy they’ve ever owned to the living room floor – and thought“There’s no way I can get this clean in time,” you’re in the right place.
As a homeschool mom who is juggling kids, activities, running a home-based business, managing two blogs, keeping everyone fed, and trying to squeeze in workouts and guitar practice when I can, I know what it’s like to need the house clean now after you’ve neglected it for some time. Fast cleaning isn’t about perfection. It’s about smart strategy, high-impact tasks, and saving your sanity.
Today, I’m sharing the exact cleaning method I use when my home needs to go from “chaos” to “company-ready” in 20 to 60 minutes. No guilt. No overwhelm. Just a refresh that gives you breathing room and helps your home feel peaceful again.
Let’s get it done.

How to Clean Your House Fast: Take a Deep Breath
It doesn’t need to be perfect right away but you can make it manageable for when your company arrives.
Taking a minute or two to plan how you’re going to get it done will save you ten minutes of wandering around wondering what to do next (I say this from a place of love and lots of experience).
Set a Timer
Timers are magical. Truly. I’m writing this blog post with one right now, haha.
Something about that countdown pushes you to move faster, avoid distractions, and stay on track.
I tend to go with either a 20 or 30 minute timer per room depending on the urgency level.
When I’m focused on specific chores (like laundry or the kitchen), I like either a 10 or 15-minute timer. Its’ amazing what competing with a clock can do for your speed and focus.
Helpful tools:
- Visual cube timer (super motivating and kids love these things so they’re great to use to motivate children to clean their rooms)
- Headphones (these ones are low EMF!) so you can listen to music or a podcast while you clean
- A Bluetooth speaker for a playlist that gets you pumped

Grab a Clear Bin for Fast Decluttering
The fastest way to make your house look clean couldn’t be simpler – get rid of the clutter.
When we’re behind on laundry (because seriously, what super human manages to fold everything the same day?), I’ll toss it into a clear bin and deal with it after the visit or event I’m hosting.
For clutter on surfaces like tables and counters, you could use a small clear bin and collect it as you go room to room – this is usually things like magazines, unsorted mail, kids schoolwork and art, plus other things that don’t have a designated home yet.
Some other things you might want to add to those bins right now could be:
- toys
- books
- random office and school supplies
Sorting it later is fine. Right now, you just want everything off the surfaces.
Pro Tip: I use clear bins because I can easily find whatever I put in there later on! Whether its one of my kids’ uniforms for a class or a cardigan for church, being able to see what’s in there makes things so much more manageable when you have very little time in your days.
Pick Your Cleaning Path Before You Begin
Pick a direction and commit to it.
I always start in my kitchen with the dishwasher. Once its unloaded and reloaded, I’ll place whatever straggler dishes I have left in the sink and give my counters a good wipe down. I do the same with the kitchen table and coffee table in the family room too.
My second space is always the bathroom. It’s those spaces that aren’t exact sparkling that are my priority when we have company.
You don’t have to start in your kitchen or even do your bathroom next though – you could go top-to-bottom, left-to-right, or room-to-room – whatever makes the most sense to you.
My mom’s plan of attack was always moving from the front door into the house as guests see it, haha.
The point is to avoid backtracking, which is the biggest time-waster in fast cleaning.
Do a 10-Minute Tidy for Each Main Area
Another method you could use is a 10 minute speed clean of each room.
Break it down into doable sections, grab your clear bin, and just start. Ten minutes here, ten minutes there – the momentum builds and your home starts feeling peaceful again.
If you’re fortunate enough to get more time, head back to a room you’d like to do a second take on.
Living Room (10 Minutes)
This is where most of us spend the majority of our time – and also where kids tend to bring their toys. A quick reset makes the entire home feel cleaner.
What to do:
- Add clutter to your large clear bin
- Fold blankets
- Fluff pillows
- Wipe down coffee tables or side tables
- Give floors a fast vacuum or Swiffer
These are my favorite supplies for a quick clean:
- Cordless stick vacuum – we love our Shark! I can’t imagine going back to a corded vacuum after using this thing. Its so much faster and way easier to do stairs with it.
- Microfiber cloths – amazing for tables and especially for electronics, these cloths get it all one. Why is it that children love to touch the television?
- Woven baskets – I love these baskets for organizing books, toys, blankets, and the smaller ones for our kids small musical instruments. They look great and actually keeps things organized!
Perfection isn’t the goal. Just make it look like you tried – and honestly even five minutes can make a huge difference!
Kitchen (10 to 15 Minutes)
The kitchen often feels like the heart of the chaos – especially when you cook from scratch! That said, it’s also the area that make the rest of your home look cleaner fastest once you hit a few key spots. That’s why I always tackle mine first.
What to do:
- Unload and Reload the dishwasher – if you have time, clear the sink
- Clear hotspots – kitchen island, table, counters
- Wipe down your counters and stove – if you have time, clean stainless steel appliances starting with your fridge and dishwasher (these wipes are amazing, I can’t recommend them enough!)
When you’re in a rush, you don’t need to deep-clean the fridge or scrub the oven. Just focus on what you and your guest see.

Kitchen Cleaning Must-Haves:
- All-purpose spray – this one is great and doesn’t smell too strong
- Scrubbing brushes and sponges – we love the scrub family, they actually work really well for tough residue too
- Stainless steel spray – this stuff are game changing because honestly, stainless steel is not what it claims to be, lol.
- Microfiber cloths – this set is affordable and actually works well
Bathrooms (10 Minutes)
Bathrooms look dirty easily, but they also look clean easily – good news for quick cleaning days!
What to do:
- Clean the toilet – inside and out! Pouring a little bit of this stuff and coming back to clean it in 10 minutes makes a huge difference. The smell is actually pleasant too.
- Wipe the counters and sinks – its amazing how sticky they can get from the kids’ soap and toothpaste routines, isn’t it? Haha
- Clean your mirror – this foam cleaner is incredible, it works way better than the traditional spray version
- Empty the garbage – I empty it no matter how little there is in there, just amalgamate it with your kitchen garbage to take it all out in one go.
- Replace hand towel – we used to have white towels but switched to grey and green ones because they stain too easily. We love how soft these are.
If you want to go one step further, a scented candle or diffuser makes the space feel extra fresh.

Entryway (3 to 5 Minutes)
People always notice the entryway first – its where you come in from after all! Keeping this spot tidy instantly gives the impression of a pulled-together home.
What to do:
- Pick up shoes – I got this stacking shoe rack for ours and stack one shoe on top of the other to create more space. Important when you have four or more people living at home!
- Hang coats on hooks – we have a coat rack for less used items and this wall mounted coat rack for our daily wear. Its so convenient for daily activities and keeping things tidy!
- Quick sweep or vacuum – again, if you don’t have a stick vacuum, you need one. Its a game changer!
- Shake out and straighten mats or rugs – its amazing how many small rocks and leaves shoes will bring into your home. I noticed a huge difference when we added an outdoor rug to our entryway too because it actually prevents some debris from coming indoors.
- Declutter the table – if you have an entryway table, remove the clutter and add it to your clear bin!

Use Multitasking Products
The fewer products you use, the faster you clean. Consider things like:
- One all-purpose cleaner for multiple surfaces
- A good set of microfiber cloths
- Scrub brushes and sponges
- A stick vacuum (yes, I love this thing, lol – and a quick vacuum makes a huge difference!)
Less decision-making = more cleaning.
Tackle High-Impact Areas Only
Fast cleaning means letting go of the “I’ll just clean this one extra thing” urge.
Skip:
– Washing windows
– Reorganizing drawers
– Scrubbing inside appliances
People probably aren’t going to see these things and honestly, I’d hope my guests aren’t looking inside my appliances or drawers, haha.
Instead, focus on:
– Counters and cluttered surfaces
– Dishes
– Floors
– Toys and visible clutter
These are the things people notice instantly and they’ll make you feel calmer, too.
My mom always says “cluttered home, cluttered mind” and I couldn’t agree more!
Pro Tip: Keep a Few Cleaning Supplies on Every Floor
Even if its just toilet cleaner and an all purpose cleaner plus some paper towel, this tip can save you so much time.
We keep a small supply of cleaning products in our downstairs bathroom and it really helps for getting the downstairs in shape when we’re tight on time.
A mini caddy like this is great to store everything.
Upstairs, we have these stackable organizers to keep everything visible and in order – its honestly helped so much with keeping the cupboards tidy too.

How to Clean Your House Fast With Kids
Cleaning fast with kids isn’t just possible – it can actually be fun.
Assign Mini Jobs
Kids love to help when:
- There’s a clear job
- There’s a short time limit
- They feel like it’s a team effort
Ideas by age:
- Toddlers: put toys in a basket
- Preschoolers: sort books and toys, wipe surfaces with a damp cloth
- Elementary age: vacuum, sort books, wipe bathroom and kitchen counters
- Tweens/teens: unload and load dishwasher, sweep floors, vacuum, tidy entryway
Timers like this turn everything into a game, too – my girls love doing laundry when we race the clock for 30 minute intervals! They’re great at running their clothes to their rooms to put it all away too.
A Fast Cleaning Routine You Can Use Daily
Even on busy days, you can maintain a clean home with short resets throughout the day.
20-Minute Morning Reset
- Unload and reload the dishwasher
- Clear breakfast dishes – during busy seasons, we get paper plates to alleviate some of the stress that comes with too many dishes. Our dishwasher is constantly full of prep dishes so it honestly helps so much when you do a lot of home cooking.
- Wipe counters
- Vacuum high traffic areas and under the kitchen table
- Quick living room pickup
10-Minute Afternoon Refresh
- Tidy books and homeschool supplies
- Fluff pillows and put away blankets
- Vacuum or Swiffer the main rooms
10-Minute Evening Clean
- Kitchen reset (the most important one!)
- Unload and reload your dishwasher before you go to bed – trust me, it’ll make a huge difference for your mornings
- Bathroom sink wipe-down
- Put away toys and books and other clutter
These little resets keep your home from getting too far gone and help you maintain a sense of peace when you start and finish the day.

Final Thoughts on Cleaning Your Home Fast
A quick tidy up isn’t about being perfect or having a spotless home 24/7 – although that would be nice, haha. It’s about creating a little peace and breathing room in your day so you and your family can enjoy your space.
Set boundaries on kids toys and remind them to tidy up when they’re done an activity on in a specific area.
On busy days, sometimes we just need a little reset – something simple and doable. And with the right strategy, your home can look clean and feel peaceful in less than an hour.
Happy tidying, friend! You’ve got this.
